Peru: The New Hotspot for Australian Travellers Seeking Unique Cultural Experiences
Post-pandemic, Australian travellers are seeking more meaningful and immersive holiday experiences, and Peru has emerged as a top destination. Renowned for its award-winning gastronomy, luxury offerings, rich culture and one-of-a-kind adventures, this country is back on the map for Australian holidaymakers.
On February 26th and 27th, PROMPERÚ Trade Commission Office in Australia & New Zealand hosted an exclusive two-night celebration of Peruvian culture and cuisine in Sydney. The events showcased Peru’s rich heritage, with a special focus on its world-class gastronomy, history, and luxury travel offerings.
The first evening kicked off at Morena restaurant with a media event hosted by renowned Peruvian chef, Alejandro Saravia, who is known for his dedication to elevating Latin American cuisine in Australia. With over 15 years of experience, he champions the use of seasonal, locally-sourced produce while honouring the traditional flavours and cooking methods of Peru. The dinner allowed guests to experience firsthand the depth and diversity of Peruvian culinary culture, featuring authentic ingredients from both Latin America and Australia. Each guest also received tickets to the Machupicchu exhibition at the Australian Museum, along with a special Peruvian hot chocolate gift pack. The spectacular dishes served were curated for PromPeru.
The following evening, the celebration continued at the Australian Museum, where travel industry professionals enjoyed an exclusive evening hosted in partnership with LATAM Airlines. Guests explored the Machupicchu exhibition and took part in an immersive virtual reality experience that transported them to the heart of Peru. Pisco cocktails and traditional Peruvian canapés were served as part of the event, while journalist and podcaster, Belinda Jackson. shared her personal experiences of travelling through Peru, further deepening the allure of the country as a must-visit destination in a lively Q&A.
The evening was graced by distinguished guests, including Soledad Campos de Parry, Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner of PROMPERÚ, and Vitaliano Gaspar Gallardo Valencia, the Ambassador of Peru to Australia. Attendees marvelled at the Australian Museum’s expertly curated Machupicchu exhibit and enjoyed the cutting-edge VR experience that brought Peru’s ancient wonders to life.
This unforgettable event marks just the beginning of Peru’s resurgence as a must-see destination for Australian travellers seeking culture, adventure, and authentic experiences. With a remarkable 57% increase in visitation over the past year, totaling 27,304 Australians exploring Peru and staying for an average of 15 days, the country is poised for even greater growth in the years to come. As more Australians discover the unique charm and rich heritage of Peru, it’s clear that this vibrant destination will continue to captivate and inspire travellers from down under.
