Star Alliance and the Council of Australian Tour Operators (CATO) are set to electrify this year’s AFTA National Travel Industry Awards by giving guests the chance to win journeys to eight inspirational destinations in a prize draw that will light up the world.

Guests at this year’s NTIA Gala Dinner – held on Saturday 20 July at Sydney's International Convention Centre – will find within their Star Alliance-branded napkin holder a unique number, automatically putting them in the running for one of eight spectacular prizes.

At key points during the evening, a number will be randomly selected and as a winner heads to the stage, lights will flash across Star Alliance’s network of 1300 destinations until just one city is illuminated and their prize is revealed. This year nine Star Alliance carriers and nine CATO members have combined to offer return tickets for two to:

  • New York, flying Air Canada, where they will enjoy a five-day 'Spotlight on New York Tour' courtesy of Collette
  • Beijing with Air China for a 10-day Annapurna Trek with World Expeditions
  • Buenos Aires on Air New Zealand for a five-night journey through Argentina with Chimu Adventures
  • Japan, flying Eva Air, where they’ll experience five nights at Club Med Kabira Beach in Okinawa or Club Med Sahoro / Club Med Tomamu, in Hokkaido
  • South Africa, as guests of South African Airways, where they’ll enjoy an eight-night safari with The Africa Safari Co.
  • Zurich, courtesy of Singapore Airlines and Lufthansa, plus two eight-day Swiss Travel Passes and a $500 Expedia TAAP travel voucher
  • Phuket with Thai Airways and an eight-night Thai islands cruise for two with Peregrine Adventures travelling aboard the Panorama II
  • Aspen with United Airlines, along with five nights’ accommodation at Capitol Peak Lodge, lift passes, ski rentals and airport transfers thanks to Sno’n’Ski.

Star Alliance Country Steering Committee Chair Jum Mu says this year’s Star Alliance prize draw will add even more suspense and excitement to the industry’s most anticipated night of the year.

“Winning a National Travel Industry Award is the ultimate accolade, but leaving this year’s event as a Star Alliance winner will be a very close second,” says Mu.

For the fourth consecutive year, Star Alliance will once again sponsor the Best Non-Branded Travel Agency Group category at the 2019 NTIA. The judged category recognises those groups that offer independent travel agents the chance to be part of a strong and supportive network while still operating under their own individual business name.
