The annual AmCham DHL Express Success & Innovation Awards were held this month at the Pullman Auckland hotel, attended by The Walshe Group’s Jacqui Walshe, Darragh Walshe & Megan Hornblow, (Darragh and Megan representing the Hawaii Tourism Oceania New Zealand office). This event highlights some of New Zealand’s most innovative products & services succeeding in the US.

The Walshe Group was very proud to be a finalist in the Contribution to Tourism Category and were presented with the Highly Commended award (one of only four such awards presented during the night)

The Contribution to Tourism Award was judged on several criteria including the company’s impact on US tourism over the last year; activities and innovations which have attributed to growth; as well as impact to sustainability and social growth.

The Walshe Group, via our Hawai‘i Tourism Oceania office in New Zealand, were delighted that some of our proud achievements over the last 12 months were recognised by the judges. In particular, the submission highlighted the following achievements:

- Hawai‘i has led the way for visitation to the United States from New Zealand, including exhibiting more than twice the growth shown by destination USA as a whole

- The Walshe Group, as a New Zealand representative for the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, is regularly held up as a global standout and benchmark within the industry.

- In 2018, New Zealand arrivals are up over 39% YTD

- And are on track to achieve the 8th successive year of visitor growth from New Zealand to Hawai‘i

- The annual spend from these visitors brings over US$160 million into the US economy.

- The value of PR directly related to The Walshe Group initiatives over the past 12 months exceeded US$1.2 million

- The Walshe Group recently initiated an exciting environmental partnership which will benefit both Hawai‘i and New Zealand. This initiative, with acclaimed not-for-profit company, Sea Cleaners, will see a group of youth from New Zealand travel to Hawai‘i to participate in a number of coastal clean-ups and community presentations. This includes an exchange element that will see a similar group from Hawai‘i travelling to New Zealand. The Walshe Group has engaged a considerable amount of partner sponsorship and support to make this happen.
